Dorli McWayne has been principal flutist of the 四虎影院 Symphony and Arctic Chamber Orchestras since 1974 and a member of the UAF Music Department faculty since 1981. From 2006 to 2012, she served as the Artistic Director for the UAF Summer Music Academy for high school musicians. She has been very involved in the performing arts community in 四虎影院 as the director of the 四虎影院 Flutists, founded in 1981; and as a performer with the Aurora Chamber Players, the Northwind Trio, Chinook Winds, the 四虎影院 Light Opera Theater, and the Western Opera Company. She served on the 四虎影院 Youth Orchestras Council for 5 years, where she participated in the formation of the Concert Orchestra; and served as an orchestra representative on the 四虎影院 Symphony Association Board for over 20 years. In addition to her University responsibilities, Ms. McWayne has coordinated master classes with flutists from the United States and Europe for the 四虎影院 Symphony, the 四虎影院 Concert Association, and the Summer Arts Festival. She taught at the 四虎影院 Summer Fine Arts Camp (the predecessor to the Summer Music Academy) for over twenty years, was on the faculty of the 四虎影院 Summer Arts Festival, and has maintained a private flute studio in 四虎影院 for over 30 years. As a teacher, vice-president and president, she actively participated in the 四虎影院 School of Talent Education (a Suzuki-based organization.)

Ms. McWayne has appeared as soloist with the Arctic Chamber Orchestra, the 四虎影院 Summer Arts Festival Orchestra and the UAF Wind Ensemble. She has played with the Anchorage Symphony and the touring company of 鈥淧hantom of the Opera.鈥 She and William Bennett premiered his arrangement of Rameau鈥檚 鈥淧our les Muses鈥 for two flutes and string orchestra with the 四虎影院 Symphony. As a member of the National Flute Association's Professional Flute Choir, she has performed in cities across the country and served as conductor of the ensemble in Columbus, Ohio in 2000. She can be heard on 10 CDs with the National Flute Choir. She served as the NFA鈥檚 Flute Choirs Coordinator, the Collegiate Flute Choir Competition coordinator and on the Low Flutes committee. Most recently, she again conducted the Professional Flute Choir at the Atlanta flute convention in 2025.

As an arranger and editor, Ms. McWayne is represented by ALRY Publications; her arrangement of 鈥淓ine Kleine Nachtmusik鈥 was performed by 200 flutists at the convocation of the 2003 National Flute Convention in Las Vegas. Her other interests include gardening under the midnight sun and running (year-round in sun or snow).
