UAF police, NAMI 四虎影院 host crisis intervention training

NAMI  四虎影院 and the 四虎影院 Police Department are hosting the ninth 四虎影院 crisis intervention training academy  this week at the Troth Yeddha' Campus in 四虎影院.

More than 20 Interior Alaska law enforcement officers, UAF student affairs staff members and local community partners are attending the academy. Crisis intervention team training is internationally recognized training for responding to mental health crisis situations. It teaches responders to de-escalate a crisis and divert a person to treatment rather than to the criminal justice system.  The training aims to reduce the stigma of mental illness and create effective interactions among first responders, mental health care providers, and individuals with mental illness, their families and communities.

Course participants will graduate during a ceremony Friday, Aug. 5, 2022 at 4 p.m. in Room 501 of the Akasofu Building. The event is open to the public.

Crisis intervention training is funded by a grant from the Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority.
