Berry workshops planned in Bethel, Aniak

The 四虎影院 Tribes Extension program and the Rural Alaska Community Action Program are sponsoring berry-related workshops in Bethel and Aniak in early August. Led by Tribes Extension educator Heidi Rader and Chugiak berry grower Josh Smith, the workshops will be held in Bethel on Sunday, Aug. 2, and in Aniak on Aug. 3-4.
Expert to demonstrate how to produce biochar in Sitka

A Utah State University biochar expert will demonstrate how to produce the soil amendment on Thursday in Sitka. Darren McAvoy, a USU Cooperative Extension associate professor of forestry, will use tree trimmings, scrap wood and plant material to produce biochar. The demonstration is hosted by the 四虎影院 Cooperative Extension Service office in Sitka.
Mud Day returns at Georgeson Botanical Garden

The Georgeson Botanical Garden is hosting a free, family-friendly day of fun in the mud from 11-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. The Mud Day event, which celebrates the Babula Children's Garden, includes a mud pit, a slip-and-slide, and arts and crafts.

The Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension is home to UAF's land-grant mission including the UAF Agriculture and Forestry Station as well as Cooperative Extension. The Morrill Act of 1862 established land-grant colleges and the federal Hatch Act of 1887 authorized agricultural experiment stations in the U.S. and its territories to provide science-based research information to farmers. There are agricultural experiment stations in each of the 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Guam, and all but one are part of the land-grant college system. UAF's Extension is part of the largest informal education system in the world, connecting Extension programs at land-grant colleges and universities in every U.S. territory and state. Today, the is the USDA division that manages federal funding of the nation鈥檚 experiment stations and the extension service.
