Beyond the Balance Sheet: GAAP Members Explore Anchorage's Accounting Scene

Members of The Great Alaskan Accounting People (GAAP) spent their spring break on a professional development tour, visiting leading firms and organizations across Anchorage. Through site visits and networking with professionals, students gained a clearer understanding of firm culture and the wide range of career paths in Alaska's accounting field. The experience offered a well-rounded look at the profession and helped future accountants build both confidence and connections as they prepare for their careers.

Tradition in Action: GAAP's Alaska Native Corporation Seminar 2026

For over a decade, the ËÄ»¢Ó°Ôº' Great Alaskan Accounting People (GAAP), a student organization, has upheld a tradition: connecting future leaders with the people and principles behind Alaska Native Corporations. What started in Dr. Ken Abramowicz's CBSM class has grown into an annual seminar that, for me and my peers, bridges the gap between classroom theory and applied leadership.

Lessons from the Field: New rural health course available Summer 2026

For more than a decade, Phil Hokenson traveled to the furthest reaches of Alaska to assist veterans and their families in some of the most geographically isolated communities in the country. Now, he brings that experience into the classroom at the UAF College of Business and Security Management (CBSM), where he will teach a 6-week accelerated online course on rural health in Alaska this summer, Rural Health Services and Emerging Technologies (HML 640).
