2025 Summer Program
Students spent two weeks on UAF Troth Yeddha鈥 Campus in 四虎影院 and in conjunction
with the Community Technical College, uncovering their potential and envisioning an
exciting future. Participants previewed UAF鈥檚 educational opportunities, explored
cutting-edge career paths, and got a glimpse of life as a college student by living
in the dorms, eating in the dining commons, and enjoying recreational opportunities
around campus.
This program was full of fun excursions, hands-on projects, and moments of personal
growth and connection.
Students from around Alaska participated in the 鈥淒rafting Dreams: High School Summer Writing Academy.鈥 This summer program focused on preparing students for college and careers in the humanities through engaging writing instruction. Led by Mary McFetridge, MFA, an honored North Pole High School teacher, participants explored crafting compelling narratives, mastering composition structures, and adapting writing strategies to suit different audiences and disciplines. The academy offered intensive one-on-one instruction, formative feedback, and support, while also emphasizing critical reading and reasoning skills to elevate students鈥 writing abilities.
The Smart Start Challenge was a 10 day, accessible, high-impact activity designed
to engage Upward Bound students in the last weeks before the new school year using
an internet-enabled device.
The program consisted of 10 鈥榮cavenger hunt鈥 prompts, one for each day, designed to
connect students with the program, reflect on their past academic year, what they鈥檝e
been doing over the summer, and what they鈥檙e looking forward to in the coming year.
